Types Of Windows Available In Northern Ireland

Bay Windows

This window sits out from the property usually consisting of three windows, one large at the front and one either
side. It has a base that is built up from the ground usually in brickwork or concrete.

Bow Windows

This window will sit out from the property in an elegant curve usually consisting of four or more windows with no
brickwork below.

Casement Windows

One of the oldest original style of window. Can be side or top hung, this means they can open sideways like a door
or from the bottom.

French Windows

These windows consist of two windows that typically open outwards like double doors.
These allow maximum light and ventilation and are a good option for a fire escape window.

Sash Windows

This window usually consists of two windows that will slide vertically. Typically one pane will move and one will be
fixed however some are designed for both panes to slide.

Tilt and Turn Windows

These windows are hung from both side and bottom. They can open sideways like a door using the side hinges or
they can tilt inwards from the top using the bottom hinges for ventilation. As these typically open fully sideways they
make a good option for a fire escape window.

Roof Lantern

This is usually installed on to a flat roof and protrudes up into a peak. Consisting of multiple panes fitted to a frame
allowing light to reach every corner of the room

Dormer Window

These windows are installed vertically into a sloping roof space. They typically have a sloped or pitched roof with
side walls to enclose the area.

Skylight

This window is installed on to a flat or pitched roof and typically sits flush at the same angle.

Fanlight

These windows are located above a door.

Sidelights

These windows are usually a vertical fixed pane beside a door designed to accommodate a larger entrance.

Shaped Windows

These windows are made bespoke to fit any opening where standard windows are unsuitable.

Glass Units

This is the name for a standard double or triple glazed pane of glass.
